Islands Stay Hotels Mactan Review

Islands Stay Hotels Mactan Review

Updated February 21, 2019

This review will be no nonsense and quick, as I didn’t do much at Islands Stay Hotels Mactan, Cebu. I only stayed there for a night, as I was meant to go to Moalboal the next day.

I landed in Cebu in the evening via an Air Asia flight from Manila, and then headed straight to Islands Stay Hotels Mactan Cebu. The taxi ride took maybe 10 to 15 minutes from the airport up to hotel, which was located along M.L. Quezon Avenue in Lapu-Lapu City.

I didn’t think much of the location, but it was great that the hotel was just across the street from a local Zubuchon. It was a big deal because Zubuchon was not yet operating in Manila at the time (there are now 8 branches as of this update). It was also a quick ride to the Mactan Shrine, and you can take the public transportation.

The room I booked was spacious and clean via Agoda. I booked a large room as the others were already fully booked. The toilet and bathroom was nothing special, and comes with its own shower heater.

Everything was going smooth until the mosquitoes came out of their den. These mosquitoes don’t mess around. They were large and for some reason, could bite through clothing. Luckily, I brought an Off lotion with me (not sponsored), which I slathered all over my body and face. (Imagine how suffocated I was of the lotion’s strong, medicinal scent.) I think it worked, but I barely slept.

For $35 a night, I do expect the accommodation to be decent—not posh, decent. I don’t expect a five-star service, and I am not really one to be fussy about my accommodation. I am pretty much what’s called in the local parlance as a “cowboy.”  I just want a room that is not infested, and that is clean and secure. Somehow the hotel met my requirements for a decent room, except for the mosquitoes.

If anything, the staff was kind and courteous. My room was also photogenic for what it’s worth. I hope the mosquito situation has been dealt with, because hotels with good branding like Islands Stay Hotel Mactan should not take their company reputation for granted.
